Christmas Magic: Turning Dreams Into Entrepreneurial Purpose
In 2016, Lleyton Matthews proved that big dreams come to life with hard work, determination, and entrepreneurial purpose. Driven by a childhood dream and a natural creativity, Lleyton founded Christmas Ornament Factory. His mission was clear from the start: channel his love for handmade crafts and Christmas ornaments into a real business, take on the responsibility of earning money to buy his own puppy, and use his success to bring comfort and encouragement to patients at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
What began as a summer project making individual, handcrafted holiday ornaments quickly grew into a masterclass in discipline and perseverance. Lleyton’s parents insisted that if he wanted a puppy, he needed to earn it himself through hard work. Day after day, he crafted each piece entirely by hand, launched an online e-commerce store, and built a brand rooted in purpose. His efforts paid off in 2017 when, after more than a year of careful saving, he proudly bought his very own puppy — a Morkie appropriately named Luke after the Star Wars character Luke Skywalker. Luke quickly became his official studio companion, keeping him company while playing, relaxing, and assembling holiday crafts.
As the business entered its third year in 2018, Lleyton’s vision expanded beyond simply selling finished products like his popular Adorable Penguin and White Christmas Tree designs. Recognizing the pure joy of creating, he innovated a line of DIY Ornament Template Packages. Designed as a "for kids, by kids" project, these kits contained all the materials necessary for children of all ages to build their own collections, transforming a solo venture into an interactive experience.
At the heart of the business remained a deep commitment to giving back. From his very first sale, Lleyton pledged 10 percent of all earnings directly to CHOC to support their work with young patients. To deepen that impact, he began sharing his DIY Ornament Template Packages directly with kids in the hospital, giving them a fun, creative outlet during their stay. Through handcrafting holiday cheer, Lleyton demonstrated that early entrepreneurship is about far more than profits and puppies — it is about building character, honoring commitments, and using personal creativity to brighten the lives of others.
